Two of the tulip world's finest details in one flower: 'Newcastle' is both double and fringed. Full blooms in soft light purple with elegantly frilled petal edges — like little silk pompoms. Compact at about 35 cm, ideal for pots and the front of the border, flowering late April through May. Plant 12 cm deep, 10 cm apart, in full sun.

Plant the bulbs in autumn (September–November) before the frost arrives. Set them pointy end up in well-drained soil — as a rule of thumb 2-3 times the bulb's height deep. Water after planting, then let nature do the rest. After flowering, let the foliage die down completely before removing it so the bulb can recharge for next year.
