'Queen of Night' is the darkest of all tulips and a firm favourite. Velvety, maroon-black blooms on tall, sturdy stems open late in the season, adding depth and drama to borders. Superb for cutting, easy to grow in any well-drained soil, and beautiful planted with white or soft pink varieties. Plant 15 cm deep in autumn in full sun.
Plant the bulbs in autumn (September–November) before the frost arrives. Set them pointy end up in well-drained soil — as a rule of thumb 2-3 times the bulb's height deep. Water after planting, then let nature do the rest. After flowering, let the foliage die down completely before removing it so the bulb can recharge for next year.
